Monthly Meetings

Triangle Fly Fishers' monthly meetings are (usually) held the last Monday of every month @ 7:00 PM (except December) at the Durham County Wildlife Club (DCWC) in RTP off Hopson Road. (For more schedule information, please visit the Calendar page.)

Please send suggestions for programs/speakers to Don Brannon or Randy Stevenson.

Upcoming Programs

May Meeting: Monday, May 19th (note the date) from 6:00 - 8:30 PM at the DCWC

Pre-meeting Old Liars Seminar: Come early at 6:00 PM to share the camaraderie of other early arrivals and to learn about maps from local waters, twisted sister leaders, “smallie” flies, knots for the uninitiated, and more…

Leader's Message: Our venerated TFF leader, Jim Cappy, in his inimitable fashion, will remind us of the many exciting TFF events we’ve got lined up, review the progress of the very informative and new TFF Google Group; let us know how to buy Tee shirts, hats, beer steins (“TFFers don’t need no stinkin’ coffee mugs!!”), and tote bags with our cool logo, and generally ensure that everyone is up-to-date.

Humor: It has not been our experience that fly fishermen are dull, but so far it appears that they are definitely chickenBLEEPS when it comes to sharing humor in a group. As a result, you will all be required to endure the imperceptive humor from Co-Program Chairman Stevenson. Please: no rotten fruit!

The Warm-up: Stalking the Surprising Smallie

Smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) are world-class game fish noted for their strong fights and high jumps. Though their average size ranges between 12”-20” they are unrivaled pound-for-pound for their ability to put up a fight. Big Jim Burchette, aka Pipes, will be on hand to counsel us on how to hook into these beauties on the James and Maury Rivers. He will talk about the species, accessible locations on those rivers, fly patterns, methodology, and the whole shebang.

The Keynote: Using Fly Fishing to Mend Wounds: A Special Memorial Day Presentation

We are extremely lucky this month to welcome Mr. John Bass, Board Trustee of Project Healing Waters, who will provide a stirring presentation on a very noble, important, and timely effort to help wounded and maimed veterans regain their dignity through fly fishing. Take a moment to visit the PHW Web site and consider coming to the meeting prepared to help this remarkable program expand its cause.

Post-meeting Gathering: After the meeting, retire to the TFFers' favorite watering hole, the Time Out Bar and Grill, for tea and crumpets.
