10th Annual Haw River DerbyOur annual cleanup on the Haw is tentatively scheduled for April 10, 2010. Participants will receive a free commemorative tee shirt (while they last), soft drinks, and lunch plus prizes for the most trash + fish points and the lightest full bag of trash. We will pick up trash in the morning, fish in the afternoon, and hope the white bass (and their cousins ...) cooperate. Trash points: 3 points per pound of trash brought in and weighed Fish points are awarded as follows:
Participants must weigh in trash in order to be eligible for fish points. Event will start at 9:00 am at the Robeson Creek Canoe Access. Directions from RaleighFrom the Raleigh Beltline, take 1/64 south. Follow the signs for Jordan Lake. Take the Hwy 64 exit (this should be the third exit, the one AFTER Cary Parkway) and follow the signs for Asheboro and Jordan Lake. This should put you heading west on Hwy 64. Stay on Hwy 64 and go over Jordan Lake. The next piece of water you hit will be the Haw River. Take the first left after you pass over the Haw River. This should be Foxfire Trace. (This used to be Hwy 64 ...) About a half mile down, take a left onto Dee Ferrell Road. There should also be a sign for Robeson Creek (with an arrow) on the right. Follow Dee Ferrell until it tees into Hank's Chapel. Take a left onto Hank's Chapel. The Robeson Creek Canoe Access will be a mile down the road on the left. Follow the gravel road to the parking area next to the river. If you are heading east on Hwy 64, Foxfire Trace is right at mileage marker 387. Pass Exit 386 for Business 64 and be prepared to take the next right. Note: Check out the spelling of Dee "Ferrell" at both ends of the street. They are not the same. NotesChest waders and felt soled boots are recommended, particularly if you plan to fish. The waders also protect you from things like green briar and poison ivy. The felt soles help deal with the slick rocks in the Haw. A wading staff is also a good idea. See y'all there! Watch the TFF e-mails for more details.
